1905 Holsman of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin at the 2019 Milwaukee Concours d’Elegance

Tim and Carrie Kelly’s 1905 Holsman was the oldest entrant in the 2019 Milwaukee Concours d’Elegance car show.  All in attendance loved seeing her driven around the field as though she was one of the newer entries!   Although they do have the original rope drive belt, a modern rubber drive-belt was used for the show so she could be driven from the transport trailer to her display spot.

The Kelly’s acquired the 1905 Holsman (#2340V) in 2017 from the daughter of its previous owner who had recently passed away.  Their dear friend and master vintage car mechanic, Mike Grunewald of Harvard, Illinois, had rebuilt the engine years back and knew she was in great shape.  So, they bought it.  She runs like she was built yesterday. The engine and drive train is near perfect, and she starts with no issues.  Mike had to modify the carburetor slightly by moving it from under the seat to under the floor boards, since she had a tendency on long runs to experience gas boiling/vaporing.  The Kelly’s plan to refinish her wood this winter back to a nice piano-gloss finish and will also redo her top as the rear curtain has seen better days.   The frame was painted a gold color, so they will be redoing that to bring back her red finish.   She has beautiful Solar brass lights front and back, and an original lock on her front compartment.

The Kelly’s Holsman is housed in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, where they have a nice car collection.  She resides with 2 Model Ts (1917 and 1919), three Model A’s (28, 30, 31), a 1952 British Ferret Armored Scout Car/Tank, a 1975 MB 450SL, and some newer cars.

An update:

In 2021, Tim and Carrie Kelly’s 1905 Holsman won the Carl F. Benz Class Award in the Geneva Concours d’Elegance. Everyone was astonished when they drove it through the event and through the awards square!
